HPD to get 300 new squad cars
05:42 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 18, 2007
The Houston City Council voted Wednesday to spend about $10 million to buy about 300 new cars for the Houston Police Department.
Some council members had complained that aging patrol cars are kept on the streets way too long and that there's no process for determining when police cars should be replaced.
Mayor Bill White has embarked on an aggressive plan to buy 300 or more police cars every year for the next five years.
