Police: Man set girlfriend on fire in Conroe

08:05 PM CDT on Sunday, July 15, 2007

KHOU.com staff report

A Conroe woman was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday with burns to 90 percent of her body.

AP

Police believe her boyfriend, a man with a long criminal record, is responsible.

Investigators say Terry Bailey, 44, was injured at her home in the 1700 block of Fay Street Saturday night.

Neighbors said they called 911 after Bailey’s boyfriend ran to them for help.

“We were just sitting out here hanging out, having a couple beers, then this guy storms across the yard saying to call 911, there had been an explosion in the kitchen,” a neighbor said.

But investigators say there was no explosion.

They believe John Dodd doused Bailey with gasoline and set her on fire.

Dodd is currently in the Montgomery County Jail on $250,000 bond for attempted murder.

Dodd has several priors, including one for sexual assault.

Friends said Bailey has been an award-winning CPS caseworker for 20 years.

They said she'd only been dating Dodd a few months.
