Water attracts wildlife…it’s a law of nature.
KHOU - TV
But too much water attracts wildlife to high and dry places.
John Santiago knows about that.He has spent these past few overcast days chasing critters out of homes and businesses. “Well, yeah, see, with all the flooding that we’ve had lately, the rodents have nowhere to go, so places like downtown, there’s a real problem.”
Pest control businesses are busy sealing up homes invaded by everything from rats to roaches to snakes.
They’re all coming indoors to escape the stormy weather says Richard Weisman with Advanced Pest Control. “It’s driving small animals into attic areas. We do a lot of rat control, rodents, squirrels, raccoons and possums, which is unusual for this time of year.”

These squirrels sought shelter from the rain in a tree trunk.
Also, mild winters bring more rats, more squirrels, more mosquitoes, even more bats.
And when the weather turns stormy, guys like John Santiago make a lot of house calls. “The rodents are finding ways up the, up sewer pipes, and things of that nature.”
When the water rises, it’s just a law of nature.
