New vehicle to help in the fight against drunk driving
12:41 PM CDT on Monday, June 25, 2007
Harris County has one of the highest drunk driving rates in the country and now the Houston Police Department hopes a new vehicle will help fight that trend.
"Breath alcohol testing vans will have the equipment. The breath anlyzer equipment will be in the van along with a computer and fax and possibly a small holding cell," Chief Harold Hurtt said.
In a news conference Monday, Hurtt said he believes these self-contained DWI processing vans will allow arresting officers to transport suspects faster to jail. This way police can get back to the street to continue fighting crime.
