Suspected serial sex predator behind bars

06:53 PM CDT on Wednesday, June 20, 2007

From 11 News staff reports

A wanted sexual predator was behind bars Wednesday after being profiled in a Crime Stoppers news conference.

William James Bradford, 41, is charged with sexual assault.

Bradford was arrested around 11:45 a.m. in the 5800 block of Van Fleet after witnesses who recognized him from news reports detained him.

Detectives used DNA to link Bradford to a sexual assault and burglary in December 2006.  Bradford broke into an apartment in the 1800 block of El Paseo wearing a ski mask and sexually assaulted the 25-year-old woman inside.  He also stole the woman’s University of Texas National Champions letter jacket.

On January 9, a 27-year-old woman was walking her two kids to a transit center in the 6700 block of La Salette when Bradford grabbed her buttocks and kept walking.  As the woman called police to report it, Bradford approached her again, touched her and sexually assaulted her.  The woman said Bradford was wearing a UT letter jacket and a lot of cologne.

Investigators say a suspect with a similar description was seen wearing a UT letter jacket and peeping in windows at an apartment complex in the 9800 block of Meadowglen in February.

Any female who thinks she may have been victimized by Bradford is urged to contact HPD Homicide Division Sex Crimes Unit at 713-308-1180 or Juvenile Sex Crimes Unit at 713-731-5335.
