Thousands of immigrants will go hungry in the Houston area on Tuesday, joining a nationwide hunger strike to protest what they call repression of immigrants.

The Leland Federal Building downtown will be the central area.

Thousands around the country are set to take to the streets to make sure their voices are heard.

A rally last weekend to ask for a moratorium on immigration raids drew hundreds in Houston. They claim children are unfairly and inhumanely being separated from their parents in the raids.

But members of the U.S. Border Watch were also at the rally, hoping their message that the government isn't doing enough to protect borders would also be heard.

May 1 is International Workers Day.

The demonstration is set to start at 4:30 p.m. at 1919 Smith St.
