Slain HBU athlete's family searches for a killer
06:45 PM CDT on Sunday, April 29, 2007
Every once in a while, Samuel Lazarus pops in a tape to see his son.
The tape shows Eber Lazarus’ last activity at church – right before he was gunned down, one year ago this week.
“He tried to get some extra income to cover his school costs,” Samuel said.
So 23-year-old Eber, and HBU basketball player, bought hundreds of pairs of the popular Air Jordan shoes and sold them out of his white van.

Sadly, it was a potential sale that led to his death.
“When he got there it appears that they opened fire on him. He tried to run for his life but they got him at the gate,” Samuel said.
Police say two suspects jumped into the van and made off with more than $7,000 worth of shoes.
The van was found a day later – no shoes or suspects in sight.
“It keeps us hanging like that … We need closure,” Samuel said.
Closure not only to move on, but to give an explanation to Eber’s baby boy, born two months after his father’s death.
“He didn’t get to see his father. His father didn’t get to see him.”
For now, his family can only hope to one day solve the mystery of the young student’s death.
