Charges pending against man shot by police during narcotics search

05:41 PM CDT on Wednesday, April 25, 2007

From 11 News staff reports

Charges are pending against a man who was wounded by police after pointing a gun at officers Wednesday.

Joseph Juan Flores, 23, was shot by HPD officers in the 15900 block of Galveston Road during a narcotics search.

Officers said they arrived at the apartment with a search warrant and announced themselves around 6:30 a.m.

When they received no response, they forced their way in and were met by Flores, who was pointing a gun at them.

Fearing for their safety, the officers fired and struck Flores.

Flores is expected to survive his injuries and faces charges of attempted capital murder of a police officer.

An undetermined amount of narcotics was recovered from the apartment during the search.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings, the police department and the Harris County District Attorney’s office are investigating the incident.
