Conroe doctor who used drugs at work suspended
06:11 PM CST on Tuesday, February 6, 2007
The Texas Medical Board has temporarily suspended the license of Steven H. Farber, M.D., of Conroe.
The board determined that, due to Dr. Farber’s drug and alcohol use, he would present a threat to the public welfare if he were to continue practicing medicine.
They also noted Dr. Farber’s non-therapeutic prescriptions issued to those he had personal relationships, including a patient with a history of drug abuse.
That patient was found dead in Dr. Farber’s home last April.
Dr. Farber entered the Talbott Recovery Program in June 2006 and left after two weeks, against medical advice. He then entered an outpatient program in August of that year.
Dr. Farber has admitted to using cocaine, alcohol, methamphetamines, Xanax, Darvocet and marijuana while practicing medicine.
The length of the suspension is indefinite, but remains in effect until the board takes further action.
