Taner Gardner used his brand-new cell phone to get help for Miss Judy.
The children on the bus took heroic measures to save her, and she was transported to Tomball Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
“Some were thinking that the bus driver was faking it but some were crying and worried that she had a heart attack and died,” said student Taner Gardner, a 9-year-old who used his cell phone to call 9-1-1.
“I got my backpack and said ‘I’m going to get help’, and all the other kids were like ‘Stay on the bus. You’re going to get us in trouble,’ and I said ‘No, I’m not.’ So I jumped off and ran as fast as I could,” said student Bryce Collier.
A nurse from the neighborhood started CPR on Miss Judy while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.
“They were very brave. I mean they weren’t really panicking or nothing,” said parent Donna Collier.
