Where are the city's newest red light cameras located?

Say ‘Cheese’ ten more red light cameras are now in operation across the city.

This is the third phase of the city’s safety camera program.

The cameras are now at the following intersections:

•West Loop South, East Service Road at San Felipe

•Southwest Freeway, West Service Road at Bellaire Blvd.

•Southwest Freeway, East Service Road at Beechnut

•Southwest Freeway, East Service Road at Fondren

•Northbound Chartress at St. Joseph’s Parkway

•Westbound Bissonnet at Southwest Freeway East Service Road

•Eastbound El Dorado at Gulf Freeway

•Northbound Hollister at Northwest Freeway West Service Road

•Eastbound West Road at North Freeway West Service Road

•Southbound North Wayside at East Freeway, North Service Road

These locations were chosen because they are high accident sites.

If you want to know if you’re near a red light camera, police say just look around.

“There will be a warning sign notifying drivers that they are approaching an intersection that is being photo enforced,” said Sgt. Michael Muench with the Houston Police Department.

The first red light cameras began operating September 1, 2006.

Since then, about 22,250 violations have been issued.

The City of Humble could soon put up a red light camera system of its own.

The City council is expected to vote Thursday on whether to install the cameras at various intersections along Highway 59 within the Humble city limits.
