Nightlife in some parts of Houston means a dangerous life.

Residents say several nightclubs are also crime hot spots.

Two people were shot outside the Metropolis in the 8900 block of Richmond overnight.  That is not far from where three clubs were forced to shut down in the 9300 block of Richmond.

Some neighbors have been instrumental in getting those clubs closed.

In an area where strip centers line Richmond, one kind of business has hardly been welcomed by nearby residents.

Richmond Avenue is home to several nightclubs. 

Overnight two men were shot in the parking lot of the Metropolis discotheque.

“I’m sure this is not the only neighborhood that’s having problems, but we’re definitely having problems,” a nearby resident said.

The latest crime has residents raising eyebrows again.

“It’s just one more example of these clubs that are out of control,” said Martha Tripp.

Tripp is one of many residents who recently lobbied the city to shut down three other nearby nightclubs, citing the city’s nuisance ordinance.  Residents complained the clubs were a magnet for crime, which they didn’t want so close to their homes.

“Things are better than they were six months ago. No question about it.  We’ve still got a ways to go,” said Tripp.

Tripp and her neighbors are currently monitoring new businesses like sexually oriented ones and can now add the discotheque to their list.

Metropolis is expected to be open over the New Year’s weekend.
