The name of downtown’s newest 12 acre park and the winner were revealed during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon.

The name “Discovery Green” was chosen for downtown’s newest park.

The name Discovery Green was submitted by Mr. Kim Borja.

He’s a manager in the Accounting Department at Pappas Restaurant.

Borja was awarded Astros merchandise, a political cartoon from the Houston Chronicle’s Nick Anderson and a certificate for dinner for two at one of the new restaurants which will open at the park.

City leaders announced the name during a ground breaking ceremony.

“Discovery Green will be a premiere urban park – on par with many other great urban parks found in the world’s leading cities,” said Mayor Bill White. “It is one of many vibrant projects that have and will change the landscape of downtown Houston.”

Tuesday’s ceremony was complete with fireworks and music.
