Two men arrested in the death of a double amputee are behind bars in the Libery County jail.

The arrests come as Barney Ross Goodman, their alleged victim, was laid to rest.

Kenneth Dollery, 22, and 21-year-old Hollis B. Buckley were arrested in Baytown early Thursday, according to the Liberty County Sheriff's Department.

Officials said both have confessed to beating and robbing Goodman, a war veteran confined to a wheelchair.

Both are now charged with the capital murder.

"They will get what they deserve," said Goodman's brother, Richard Ford. "We knew that the sheriff's department was eventually going to get them with enough leads coming in. I'm just glad we got it done. We're going to bury him today at 2."

Officials said Goodman was abducted sometime Sept. 1, beaten and robbed of his disability check.

"This is a senseless case," said Liberty County Sheriff Greg Authur.

They said the suspects knew Goodman and knew when he received his check.

Goodman, authorities said, was renting a room from one of the suspects.

"From what I understand, without going into too much detail. He owed back rent and they were going to teach him a lesson," said the Liberty County sheriff.

Officials said the pair convinced Goodman to drive to the San Jacinto River and under a bridge where they reportedly ambushed him.

"The victim's legs were removed and thrown into the San Jacinto River," said Sheriff Authur.

Hollis B. Buckley, 21, and Kenneth Dollery, 22, are accused of beating and robbing double amputee.

The suspects reportedly did it to keep Goodman from following them.

Without his legs, Goodman crawled for eight hours to reach the road and where someone could spot him from the highway.

It was an off-duty officer who saw Goodman and called for help.

Goodman was rushed by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but didn't survive.

Before Goodman died, he was able to give police a description of the suspect and his vehicle.

Goodman was thrown into this creek, but managed to crawl up the embankment.

His family is devastated by the cruel manner in which he died.

"Nobody deserves to die like this," said Ford.

Ford said his brother served in Vietnam and later lost both of his legs to complications from diabetes.

He said Goodman was a good singer who once sang on stage with George Jones and other country stars.

"He just lived every day of his life, you know, like it was his last day," said Ford. "We're gonna find out who did this"

The family is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

On Sept. 5, police found one of Goodman's prosthetic legs in the creek where he was thrown.

Dollery and Buckley are being held in Baytown and are waiting to appear before a magistrate and be transferred to Liberty County Jail.
