Houston snubbed by Hispanic Magazine

When it comes to the best American cities for Hispanics, Houston doesn't make the grade according to Hispanic Magazine.
Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau
The magazine said Miami is the best U.S. city for Hispanics to call home followed by San Antonio, Albuquerque, Dallas, Santa Fe, Austin, Phoenix, San Diego and Chicago.
Reporter Dan Lauck set out to find out why Houston was missing from the list.
He headed to a southeast Houston bus terminal where many immigrants take their first step onto American soil. They immediately find themselves in a loud and somewhat bewildering maelstrom known as the Adame bus terminal -- a kind of Ellis Island of our times teeming with Hispanic travelers coming and going from Mexico to Houston.
"People in Houston are very polite," said Claudia Saucedo, a school teacher. "So for me, it's excellent. I like it here."
Saucedo and Selene Roman were headed home to Tampico, Mexico only to pack up and return. The recently-hired teachers say they're excited by the prospect of living in Houston.
"Houston is multi-cultural and I think it's a good opportunity to increase my development," said Roman.
Apparently, Hispanic Magazine has not been as impressed as the teachers from Tampico.
"Houston wasn't included? That is surprising," said Saucedo.
Surprising because this is a city with a large and growing Hispanic population, where work is available and the cost of living is low.
It's also a city that caters to the Hispanic palate. You like fresh sauteed cactus? You can find it.
Still, any ranking of cities highly subjective. Take the fact that Miami is rated number one. And Hispanic Magazine just happens to be produced in, you guess it, Miami.
Being left out of the magazine, though doesn't seem to bother our teachers from Tampico.
They'll be back.
