Last week, a 20-year-old Brazoria County soldier, Private First Class Officer, Brett Tribble, was killed in a roadside bombing in Iraq. KHOU - TV Community remembers a fallen hero. Monday, thousands of flags blew in the wind as people in his community lined the streets of Danbury to remember the hometown hero. But that was not the homecoming the family planned for private first class officer Tribble said Sherry Summers. “Heartbreak, but I also feel a lot of honor for what he did.. I know especially my son who is processing out of the Air Force he is trying to go back. He would love to go to Iraq and he would love to die for his county. I am glad they have that in their hearts.” Summers had asked for donated flags to decorate the city in honor of Tribble. It quickly turned into a huge memorial. “I want to remember it. I think it’s very important. Very important and I am proud of what our town did,” said area resident, Ester Flilpp. Tootie Shuman, a family friend said, “The whole community turns out that’s just the way we are.” At least 1,000 mourners came to the Community Baptist Church to show their respect. From there it was a motorcycle led procession to the Danbury cemetery. And at Private First Class Officer, Brett Tribble’s resting place he’s remembered by the last words he spoke to his family. When asked what he was doing in Iraq Tribble said “just soldiering” and to many it was much more than that.
