Police Chief Hurtt got what he wanted Wednesday at a Houston City
Council meeting.
Council members approved a plan to purchase 3,700 tasers for the Houston
Police Department.
The $4.7 million purchase will also include holsters, cartridges, and
software for the tasers.
Chief Hurtt has pushed for the non-lethal weapons since he came to
Houston, saying they will reduce the number of deaths from
officer-involved shootings.
HPD officers should be trained and equipped with their tasers by January
1.
