HOUSTON – The northbound lanes of Interstate 45 near downtown were slow for more than an hour late Monday morning after a truck became stuck under an overpass.

The 18-wheeler was transporting a large piece of equipment when the cargo struck the overpass for W. Dallas.

Houston TranStar reported the accident happened around 10:25 a.m.

It took crews more than an hour to free the truck and then back it down the freeway to the nearest alternate route.

All northbound traffic was diverted to the Eastex Freeway, and the Gulf Freeway was slow to the South Loop.

Traffic returned to normal shortly before noon. The Texas Department of Transportation said that while they have not heard back from crew inspecting the overpass, there does not seem to be any immediate need for repair.
