It rained at my house in the Jersey Village area again today. Another 3/4" to add to a grand total of 62" of rain at my place so far this year. Now remember, on average, in the Houston area you can expect to get about 50" of rain each year at your place. But here we are at the beginning of September and I'm already ahead of that 'normal' amount by a long shot.
In fact, at our official measuring sites at the airports, both Bush and Hobby are running way ahead for the year. Bush has had almost 54" well ahead of the normal amount of 32" for this day of the year. Hobby chimes in with 48" which is more than 11" above normal.
This map from Harris County Flood Control shows what's been measured from Jan 1, 2016 through to September 7th. I've highlighted the gages that have measured 70" or more this year so far. This was an 'El Nino' year which usually means higher rain totals here in Houston. Sure enough!
