ARCOLA, Texas—One person was killed and two others were injured when shots were fired inside a crowded restaurant in Arcola, police said.
The shooting happened during an argument inside Taqueria Regio on FM 521 at Highway 6 around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Arcola Police Department.
"Don’t know if it was an ongoing argument. There was so much noise in the restaurant at the time with the music on," said Arcola Police Chief David Tezeno.
At some point, the victim called his father and said he was in trouble, so the dad rushed to the taqueria.
Police said there were about 30 people inside when the fight broke out and one man pulled a gun.
The suspect opened fire, shooting and killing the victim. Police said the suspect then shot the victim’s father twice.
One of the bullets ricocheted and hit a woman’s foot.
The suspect then fled the scene, police said.
"Nothing like this has happened in the last seven years since I’ve been here," said Tezeno. "It’s the first time we’ve had an actual shooting like this, in this particular area."
The son, who was 31 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. His father was sent to the hospital in stable condition. The woman who was shot in the foot was expected to be okay.
Police said they are confident they will be able to track down the suspect and a possible accomplice. They’re reviewing witness statements as well as surveillance video from inside the restaurant.
They believe the victim knew his killer.
The victim’s identity has not been released, but his mother said he will be buried in Mexico. She said he was a hard-working husband and father who moved to the United States nearly 20 years ago.
