Security guard shoots, kills homeless man at north Houston shopping center

HOUSTON -- A security guard shot and killed a homeless man during an altercation with officers in north Houston, police said Wednesday.

It happened at the Northline Mall shopping center at I-45 and Airline around 2:45 a.m.

Houston police said the guard spotted a possible homeless man sleeping on the strip center property. The guard called for police and attempted to wake the man up.

When officers arrived, the man got up and allegedly attacked the officer. The man then turned his attention to the guard, who opened fire and shot the man.

The suspect was taken to Ben Taub in critical condition where he later died.
