DA hopefuls campaign for runoff election

Republican candidates for Harris County District Attorney hit the streets Saturday hoping to earn some votes in the days before Tuesday’s runoff election.
DA hopeful Kelly Siegler made an appearance at the Future Farmers of America parade in Channelview.
Siegler said it’s imperative that voters go to the polls.
“To be a prosecutor you need to know how to be a prosecutor, and to run an office full of prosecutors you need to know how to do that job,” Siegler said. “And I’m the only one in this race with that kind of experience.”
But the other candidate for DA, Pat Lykos, might disagree.
“This is going to be a vital election, and it is going to determine the future of the justice system in Harris County, Texas,” she said.
It’s a system the former county judge says needs new leadership.
“The first thing we are going to do is go in there and establish the ground rules for ethics and professionalism. We are going to restore the morale in that office,” Lykos said.
Aside from the DA’s race, another hotly-contested runoff is the fight to be the Republican candidate for the District 22 congressional seat.
Shelley Sekula Gibbs and Pete Olson are facing off in that race.
Whoever wins will face incumbent Democrat Nick Lampson in November.
Lampson won the seat after Tom DeLay resigned amid a campaign finance scandal.Inside KHOU.com
