Texas AG will investigate Rosenthal
04:40 PM CST on Thursday, January 10, 2008
HOUSTON — The Texas Attorney General’s office has agreed to investigate the actions of embattled Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal.
Harris County Attorney Michael Stafford asked the attorney general Wednesday to look into the case following the release of sexually and racially charged messages that Rosenthal sent and received using his county e-mail account.
The e-mails also show Rosenthal used that e-mail account to strategize about his campaign. It is illegal in Texas to use government property for political activity.
Rosenthal dropped his re-election bid under pressure from local Republican leaders. Those leaders are now calling for his immediate resignation.
In a brief phone interview with 11 News Thursday afternoon, Rosenthal reaffirmed that he does not intend to step down.
