Suspect dead after officer-involved shooting in Friendswood

One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in Friendswood.

FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS - One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in Friendswood.

Police responded to a report of a theft just after 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of South Friendswood Drive. The suspect, described as a white male, 45 to 60 years old, wearing a white sweater and dark cap, allegedly stole merchandise and was walking southbound on South Friendswood Drive.

A Friendswood police officer encountered the suspect, who they say was armed with a box cutter, at South Friendswood and Willowick. The suspect was rushed to a local hospital where he later died.

Authorities say details of the shooting are still under investigation. The suspect’s identity has not been released at this time.

Investigators are interviewing witnesses. The Friendswood Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact authorities.
