PASADENA, TEXAS - An off-duty Precinct 5 deputy constable is recovering in the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound while trying to stop a shoplifter in Pasadena.
Pasadena Police dispatch got the call around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The deputy saws the suspect running out of the Marshall's off Fairmont Parkway with a shopping cart full of merchandise. He tried to get him to stop, but the suspect jumped in his car, and investigators say he then tried to drive over the deputy.
A spokesman with the Pasadena Police Department says the deputy, fearing for his life, fired four times at the suspect. One of the bullets somehow ricocheted back and struck the deputy in the leg. The suspect managed to get away.
Police don't have a good suspect description to pass along. They seen the suspect is man and was last seen driving away in a black older model Honda.
The good news is the deputy is expected to survive his injuries.
