Concerned residents to take stand against violence in Montrose area

HOUSTON – People are taking a stand against the violence they say plagues the Montrose area.

They want more officers patrolling the area. This all comes after two people were shot and one was killed near a club.

The community plans on holding a rally called take back Montrose at Montrose and Westheimer on Friday at 5 p.m. to shed light on crime and get law enforcements attention.

This comes after Thursday's crime spree that started with a robbery and shooting and ended in a disturbing and deadly carjacking in the parking lot of popular upscale nightclub F Bar.

Police have two people in custody connection with the murder of 22-year-old Juan Ramirez, who tried to fight his attackers.

Now many business owners and residents are on edge, worried that things are not safe anywhere even in the hip, trendy and busy parts of Houston.

KHOU 11 News spoke with an HPD officer and asked him for safety tips:

"When you are going out to your car always have your keys ready before you get out to your car if someone doesn't fact approach you and try to rob you or carjack you give up your property and not your life," he said.
