GALVESTON, Texas -- Galveston Police are investigating an incident that killed two pedestrians and left two motorcyclists in critical condition late Thursday.

Around 10:20 p.m. a man and woman tried to cross an unprotected area of the Galveston Seawall at 53rd Street, according to police.

An oncoming motorcyclist struck them, and both pedestrians were killed. Police have identified the victims as 33-year-old Elias Chavana and 29-year-old Patricia Delgado, both residents of Katy.

The motorcyclist and his female passenger were critically injured.

Police are investigating the incident and the speed of the biker. Investigators say that it is believed that alcohol was not a contributing factor.

No charges were filed in the case as of Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred on the first night of the 2016 Lone Star motorcycle rally.
