NASA launches $30K 'Space Poop Challenge'

NASA announced it will pay $30,000 to the person who comes up with the best new system to collect human waste and route it from the body of a fully-suited astronaut.

HOUSTON - NASA is trying to get to the bottom of an age-old problem.

They are looking for an alternative to the diapers that astronauts have to wear while making their way from the Earth to the space station and back again.

To find a solution, NASA has launched the “Space Poop Challenge.”

The agency will pay $30,000 to whomever can come up with a new system to collect human waste and route it away from the body of a fully suited astronaut.

The system would have to be effective for up to six days, which would prove helpful for longer journeys like NASA’s mission to Mars.
