N. Houston family loses home, cat to overnight fire

HOUSTON – A north Houston family lost their home and at least one of their two cats in an overnight fire.

The family and their dogs safely escaped, however.

The fire broke out at a home on Tarberry at De Priest around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home, which family members said was recently renovated with a new addition on the back of the property.

Firefighters said one cat died inside the home and another was missing.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
