But how do you know if your child needs help?

According to experts, your child may need help if he or she has emotional outbursts, headaches, stomachaches, sleeping problems or acts generally sad.

“The younger ones need to be cuddled, held and reassured,” said Judy Gentry with the Depelchin Children Center.

“Children of all ages need to be reassured that they are safe.  (They need to know) that everything has been done for them. Remind them that there is a community response to help all of us recover from the storm,” said Gentry.

Experts say that parents should monitor adult conversations around their children, be sympathetic to your children’s sense of loss and reassure children that they are safe.

It’s also good to maintain daily routines and expectations, experts say.
