HOUSTON – Houston police continued their search early Monday for a group of carjackers who managed to run away on foot after crashing their stolen car near a METRO bus facility on Fallbrook Drive.
The manhunt slowed buses as they left the facility in the early morning hours.
Officers with the Houston Police Department said the chase started after Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies put out an alert for a car that was carjacked from someone at an apartment complex.
Police said an HPD officer later spotted the car near Greenspoint Mall, and a brief chase ensued. The suspects went south on the I-45 frontage road before crashing near a METRO bus operations facility.
Police managed to find one of the suspects southwest of the lot, but the search for others continued more than two hours later.
Buses leaving the facility were stopped and searched as they headed out for their morning routes. A spokesman for METRO said 18 routes were affected by the searches.
Deputies said the carjacking victim was not injured.
