Safety concerns in Freeport gas terminal
11:37 AM CDT on Monday, April 14, 2008
FREEPORT, Texas — A natural gas company in Freeport is trying to reach a deal with the police department.
Freeport LNG wants officers to help provide security for a new natural gas terminal.
It’s the first to be opened in the U.S. in 30 years.
But for Texas, this is the first time our area is bringing in foreign liquefied gas to be converted to natural gas and shipped nationwide.
LNG is offering to pay Freeport Police Department for the cost of patrol cars and a new patrol boat.
The company will also cover all overtime pay.
