HISD alerts parents after alleged sex assault
09:03 AM CST on Thursday, January 24, 2008
HOUSTON -- Two HISD principals sent warning phone messages to parents Tuesday after the alleged sexual assault of a seventh-grader.
The principals called to let parents know to look out for the man, who was seen lurking in surrounding neighborhoods.
Stevenson Principal Jane Crump told parents a male student reported being assaulted at gunpoint by a suspect in the 3200 block of South Richey as he walked home from school Tuesday.
The suspect is believed to be 19-20 years old and Hispanic.
“The school is taking additional security measures to protect and safeguard your child while at school. We are reminding children not to speak to strangers, get into a vehicle with them or walk alone. As our partners in your child’s education and safety, please reinforce this message at home,” Crump said in the message to parents.
Crump encouraged neighbors to keep an eye out for any suspicious persons in the area.
HPD and HISD Police are investigating the incident.
“We need information from the public to help find him. This man belongs I jail for preying on our children,” HISD Police Chief Charles Wiley said.
