Red light camera runners going up
10:30 AM CST on Wednesday, November 28, 2007
The number of drivers caught running red lights is on the rise.
The Houston Police Department says there were 27,000 violations in October. That’s more than twice the amount in September.
Officers credit the additional 20 cameras added to intersections last month. They also say some of the additional tickets are going towards drivers who don’t come to a complete stop before turning right on red.
There are three top intersections where red light runners are caught. The camera that caught the most violators is at the South Loop at Westheimer. Nearly a quarter of the violations in October happened in three locations.
Currently, there are 70 red light cameras in Houston.
