Texas tops list for most fatal big rig accidents

A new study released Monday said Texans have good reason to be nervous about sharing the road with big rigs.
The state is number one when it comes to deadly big rig accidents.

If you're the nervous type, the kind who feels less than comfortable with an 18-wheeler seemingly attached to your back bumper.
Or the kind who thinks fast food drive-thru lanes for truckers is not such a good idea, then you're probably not surprised to find lawyers on billboards advertising alongside the north freeway.
They’re looking for clients who have been involved in accidents with 18 wheelers.
“At any given time, on average, we have out 30 cases involving trucking cases,” said Vuk Vujasinovioc. His law firm is a small fry compared with Steve Lee's 100 a year.
Clearly, Texas is king.
Compare the most populated states and you'll find New York and Illinois outdone by Florida and California.
But Texas, on average, kills 100 more people a year than whatever state is second.

On Monday the Truck Safety Coalition released the numbers which showed what America doesn't want is precisely what it's getting.
Truck drivers will tell you privately that they have little choice but to speed and eat at the wheel because the trucking companies set deadlines that can't be met any other way.
More often than not it's the smaller trucking companies who fail to maintain trucks or do the required bookkeeping.Inside KHOU.com
