Houston firefighters came to the rescue a contract worker who fell in a manhole late Thursday afternoon.
AIR 11
The man was pulled out of the manhole and taken to an area hospital.
It happened outside the La Quinta Hotel near the West Loop and San Felipe in Uptown Houston.
The manhole leads to the hotel's mechanical room.
When two contract workers entered it, one of them slipped and fell and broke his leg.
He was unable to get out on his own so rescue crews were called.
Emergency workers crawled down the manhole, tied ropes to the victim and pulled him up to safety.
The man was brought out of the hole just before 5 p.m. and was said to be conscious, alert and talking.
He was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
