District Attorney, Chuck Rosenthal said Slade basically misused public funds, "She was spending money outside her salary. Outside of her allowances. That, ah, would eventually bankrupt the school."
The indictments allege Dr. Slade spent more than $2 million on lavis furniture, spa treatments, Houston Rockets and Texan Tickets, as well as charitable and political contributions.
Rosenthal said the spending was so out of hand, it's left TSU in a financial crisis, "We found, through the investigation that, Texas Southern had some real problems out there. And had real problems in terms of whether or not It was going to be able to operate a whole lot more."
11 News attempted to contact Slade's attorney, but was told he is out of town.
Slade has maintained before that she's done nothing wrong.
Still her bail has been set at $100,000.
If convicted, Slade could get anywhere between five years probation to life in prison, and a fine of up to $20,000.
The grand jury also indicted three other former TSU employees.
Among the trio, Quintin Wiggins who resigned as chief financial. His attorney told 11 News that Wiggins was not a party to any crime. That he's only involved in the case because of his involvement with Dr. Slade.
Also indicted, former senior vice president of administration, Bruce Wilson and Frederick Holts. He was TSU’s senior safety system engineer.
In May, TSU’S board of regents voted to fire Slade as the school president.
It’s alleged she spend more than $600,000 of university money to furnish her home and landscape her yard.
