Weather wreaked havoc in some parts of the viewing area Wednesday, especially in a west Houston apartment.

Holly Jackson's son's apartment had leaks that blew out lightbulbs.

The west Houston trees were no match for the wind and the cars were no match for high water.

“To wake up thinking ‘God, the rain sounds like it’s in the apartment’. I wake up and it’s in the apartment,” said Holly Jackson.

Jackson allowed 11 News inside her son’s apartment, which had turned into a soggy mess.

A leak in the roof became more than a nuisance.

“Things started exploding as you see. There’s this light bulb and it’s everywhere. I don’t even know where this leak is coming from,” Jackson said.

Not far away was a familiar flooding scene.

Once again the Beltway 8 feeder road at I-10 had turned into a lake.

Several feet of water had it shut down and we heard from people in the area a couple of cars were submerged underneath.

Even construction cranes had become islands.

Northbound drivers turned a restaurant parking lot into a detour.

We heard and saw rushing water even after the rain had slowed down.

It was coming from a flood retention pond, which sprung a leak.

Crews plugged it up, hoping for the skies to clear.

A state transportation spokesperson said this was simply a case of too much water, too fast.

The pump system in place here was simply overwhelmed.

The spokesperson also says once this interchange is complete the drainage system will be much better.

But that still won’t happen for a while.
