A state lawmaker is taking action after an 11 News Defenders investigation exposed cameras videotaping people in public bathrooms in Houston. Last February some viewers found almost unbelievable surveillance cameras filming people in public bathrooms. Wednesday night a local lawmaker filed a bill that would make cameras like those illegal. KHOU-TV Rep. Garnet Coleman We found cameras at a Houston nightclub, peering down from up above, in both the men's, and women's restrooms. When we confronted the owners, they claimed they were there for the security of the patrons, but still promised to take them down. Still, State Representative Garnet Coleman said there's no excuse for taping people in what he calls their most private moment. The bill would also make it illegal for nightclubs to gain consent for taping you in bathroom by posting a sign. Coleman said that might still put some women in vulnerable situations when they don't have an alternative from which to choose. Rep. Coleman hand-delivered a request to Gov. Perry Wednesday, asking him to consider the bill during the special session.
