HISD begins process of renaming some area schools

Formerly known at Reagan High School, the new Heights High School will get new name displays next week.

HOUSTON - HISD has started the process of switching signage at seven schools formerly named after confederate leaders.

The name change has been controversial, with opponents calling the project a waste of money.

Crews began replacing several signs at the new Heights High School, formerly known as Reagan High on Friday.

HISD says it will cost $1.2 million to change the signs at all seven schools.

HISD says Lawson Middle, formerly Dowling Middle, already has new signs up.
