HOUSTON - HISD has started the process of switching signage at seven schools formerly named after confederate leaders.
The name change has been controversial, with opponents calling the project a waste of money.
Crews began replacing several signs at the new Heights High School, formerly known as Reagan High on Friday.
HISD says it will cost $1.2 million to change the signs at all seven schools.
HISD says Lawson Middle, formerly Dowling Middle, already has new signs up.
