HOUSTON - A 15-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car while walking alongside the road with her friends early Sunday morning in northwest Houston.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened around 2:50 a.m. on Veterans Memorial Drive at Broad Haven Drive.
Deputies said a male driver in a white van was traveling southbound on Veterans Memorial when he hit the teen. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The girl was walking with five other people at the time. Another girl was injured and was transported to Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
There was no sidewalk in the area, according to deputies.
The driver told police he saw the group and tried to avoid hitting them. After the accident, he stopped and called authorities.
The driver was not found to be intoxicated and no charges were filed.
