HOUSTON - A gas well blowout caused a strong odor in southwest Houston Wednesday evening.
According to city officials, the incident occurred near McHard Road and Fort Bend County Toll Road.
Officials say "the incident has produced a petroleum-like odor" which winds are spreading.
The Houston Fire Department is working to contain the issue, but there is no threat to the public and residents can continue to use heat and electricity. They say the smell could last for the next 24 to 48 hours.
