Cops seize 82 pot plants after phone tip
07:52 AM CST on Wednesday, January 14, 2009
GALVESTON — Police seized 82 marijuana plants from a Galveston woman’s home following an anonymous tip to the department’s narcotics hot line, authorities said Tuesday.
“This is one of the biggest (marijuana) operations narcotics has shut down,” police Lt. D.J. Alvarez said.
Pamela Susan Mayeux, 53, was released on $5,000 bond following her arrest Friday on one charge of felony possession of marijuana, Alvarez said.
Police received the anonymous call Friday, alleging marijuana was being grown in a house in the 2300 block of 43rd Street, Alvarez said. Police immediately acted on the tip. Officers found two rooms that contained 82 marijuana plants being grown by means of hydroponics, Alvarez said. Police are allowing the marijuana to dry before weighing it, Alvarez said.
Police are watching neighborhoods for drug-related activity and where sex is for sale. Officers ask the public to phone in tips to a hot line at 409-765-3670 or directly to Sgt. Gilbert Gomez at 409-765-3672 to report suspicious activity.
