Jonathan M. Newton, left, and Angela K. Newton have been charged with felony endangering a child after a toddler was trapped in a bedroom as two dogs fought.
Friendswood police said they received a 911 call at about 12:20 p.m. on Monday that an American Bulldog and a French Bull Mastiff were in the middle of a vicious fight in the bedroom of a home in the 400 block of Stoneledge. The caller also told police that a toddler was trapped in the room where the dogs were fighting.
Police described finding a bloody scene in the kitchen and hallway of the home when they arrived and could hear the screams of the young girl from the bedroom. Officers kicked in the bedroom door and found the two dogs in the middle of ferocious battle.
As soon as the broke into the room officers shot one dog with a Taser and drove the other dog into a backroom using the bean-bag gun. Police said the room and the toddler were covered in blood and a window broken because of the dogfight.
Luckily, the little girl was uninjured. The blood, said police, was from the dogs and not the toddler.
Police said that the infant and two other children, ages 13 and 11, were home alone at the time of the incident. One of the children told police that one of the dogs had broken out of its cage and launched into the attack of the other dog.
The girl’s parents were arrested and charged with felony endangering a child. Jonathan Newton, 26, and Angela Newton, 28, were being held in the county jail on $10,000 bond.
