GALVESTON -- The grandparents of two brothers, including a 10-year-old
boy accused of killing his father, were granted temporary custody of the
boys Wednesday.
The older boy is in a Harris county juvenile detention after allegedly
shooting Dr. Rick Lohstroh on Aug. 27 as the two sat in Lohstroh’s
vehicle. Lohstroh had gone to his ex-wife’s west Harris County home to
pick up the boys for a week’s visitation at his Friendswood home.
Lohstroh’s mother and stepfather, Joanne and Dick Greene of Columbia,
S.C., sought custody.
Galveston County Court-at-Law Judge Roy Quintanilla issued an emergency
order giving them custody of the boys pending a hearing Sept. 16. The
10-year-old will not be released from custody.
A deputy constable tried unsuccessfully Wednesday to find the younger
boy at the home of his mother, registered nurse Deborah Geisler, the
Houston Chronicle reported in its online edition Wednesday night.
In a written motion seeking the temporary custody, the grandparents said
the fact that the older boy was able to get a hold of a gun raises
questions about the safety of the younger boy if he stays with his
mother, the newspaper reported.
The boys alternated weeks at the homes of each of the parents.
