Houston, Sugar Land welcome President Bush

11:53 AM CST on Tuesday, October 31, 2006

From 11 News Staff Reports

Houston and Sugar Land welcomed President Bush Monday as he came to stump for Shelley Sekula Gibbs.

The President arrived at Ellington Field Monday afternoon then headed to Sugar Land Regional Airport via Marine helicopter for a Texas Victory 2006 Rally.

“I always feel better when I’m in Texas,” said the President as he spoke to the crowd in Sugar Land.

“I appreciate you taking time out of your day and I thank you for joining me in saying loud and clear to the people of the 22nd Congressional District, ‘Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is the right person to serve you in the district’,” said President Bush.

She’s a republican write-in candidate in one of the state’s hottest congressional race, District 22.

“You get to vote twice for Shelley.  You get to check her  name in the Special Election portion of the ballot and then you get to write her name in.  See, if you wanna send Shelley to the United States Congress, you gonna have to take a pencil into the ballot box.  Now, you can bring a piece of paper with you, that’s got her name on it so you can copy it down on the ballot.  So remember, when you show up to vote on November 7, be sure to bring your pencil and write Shelley’s name in for good government,” said Bush.

Sekula Gibbs is facing Nick Lampson, a democrat and Bob Smither, a libertarian, in the race for Tom Delay’s old congressional seat.

Extra security and final preparations were in place for the presidential arrival.
