Mother, two daughters killed in shooting during family dispute identified

The mom and her two daughters killed in a shooting have been identified. The mother reportedly shot and killed both of her children before she was killed by police.

FORT BEND COUNTY, TEXAS - Three people died after an officer-involved shooting during a family dispute Friday in Fort Bend County.

According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, a woman was shot and killed by a Fulshear Police officer after she opened fire on her two daughters.

One of the woman's daughters was pronounced dead on the scene. The other was taken to the hospital by Life Flight in critical condition where she later died.

On Saturday, officials identified the women as Christy Sheats, 42, Taylor Sheats, 22, and Madison Sheats, 17.

The shooting happened inside the family's home on Remson Hollow near Blanchard Grove Friday afternoon.

The motive is unclear, and the entire neighborhood is in shock.

"It's bad. I cannot believe this nice, good family, very good family," one neighbor said.

The officer reportedly opened fire on the mother after she stepped outside of the house with a gun.

"I heard fireworks, I thought, but my dad told me there were some people shooting out here earlier," said Austin Enke, another neighbor who says he went to high school with one of the victims.

"It's crazy. The neighborhood has never seen this kind of thing before. It's always quiet. This is surprising. They never showed any kind of thing that was wrong with them whatsoever," he said.

Detectives said the woman's husband was in the home at the time of the shooting and ran to the neighbor's for help.

Another neighbor who went to high school with one of the daughters said he grew up with the family.

"Mr. Sheats is a really good guy as well. He threw baseballs with me when I was growing up. It's just random, that's all I can say...tragic." he said.

"I think it would be shocking for anyone, anywhere whether you're in Fort Bend or Harris or anywhere in the country." said Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls on Friday.

Detectives also said they recovered a handgun from the scene and are looking into whether the mother fired at responding officers before she was shot. account has been set up by friends of Jason Sheats to help with burial expenses.
