Pickup truck driver dies after slamming into big rig on I-45 North

HOUSTON -– Two separate crashes slowed inbound traffic on I-45 North early Wednesday morning.

The first crash was reported near FM-1960 around 3:47 a.m., according to Houston TranStar. An 18-wheeler and a pickup truck collided, killing one person. All mainlanes were closed for more than an hour.

Witnesses said a white Chevrolet pickup slammed into the back of a big rig, crushing its cab.

Three southbound mainlanes and two frontage road lanes remained blocked at FM-1960 as crews worked to clear the scene. The freeway fully reopened shortly before 9 a.m.

Another crash near the town of Willis blocked all southbound mainlanes as of 5:02 a.m., according to TranStar. A hazmat team was called to the scene of a fiery truck crash. No other vehicles were reportedly involved.
