HOUSTON – A woman driving a black GMC pickup truck was killed early Thursday morning in a collision with a wrong-way driver on the Eastex Freeway near downtown, police said.

Houston TranStar reported the accident occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. south of Interstate-10 East.

Houston police say a woman driving a black Infiniti was traveling the wrong way, northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway, when she collided with the pickup truck.

A third vehicle, a gray Ford Taurus, then struck the victim’s truck.

Two men who were inside the Taurus were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center with minor injuries and the woman driving the Infiniti was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The woman inside the truck was pronounced dead on the scene.

Three lanes were immediately shut down, and the remaining lane was shut down an hour later. The lanes were reopened shortly before 8:30 a.m.
