Family, friends remember fallen local musician

Spencer Golvach's family and friends want people to remember the way Spencer lived, not the way he died

THE HEIGHTS – The music trailing from a tiny apartment Sunday night is a song Dylan Golvach and George Baba wish they didn't have to play for their long time band member and brother, Spencer Golvach.

Spencer was the bassist for Houston's popular Indie rock band, the Dead Revolt. Saturday morning, he was tragically killed while stopped at a red light at 18th and Mangum.

"He was kind of like my musical soulmate," said Baba.

"He was the best brother I could have asked for," said Dylan.

They'll play it at Spencer's funeral.

"There's been a talent that's been stolen from the world," said Golvach.

"To be honest with you, it's been hell," said Dylan.

Less than an hour after Spencer's murder, a Harris County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed Victor Manuel Reyes after he refused to put down his gun after another drive-by shooting. He's the same man Houston police say may be responsible for Spencer's cold blooded killing.

"My father and I have a lot of questions that haven't been answered yet," said Dylan.

While police work to uncover those answers, Spencer's family and friends want people to remember the way Spencer lived, not the way he died.

"He was an extraordinary musician," said Dylan.

He was a 25-year-old man who always dreamed big, whose music was silenced way too soon. But they vow to never stop playing.

They say it's what Spencer would have wanted.

"Just listen to the music. Musicians put their soul into the music. If you listen to that, you'll know he's there," said Baba.

The sheriff's office also released the name of 28-year-old Juan Garcia. He, too, was killed in Saturday night's drive by shooting spree.

Houston police and Harris County Sheriff detectives will be working together to try and figure out just how all these cases are connected.
